Our shire was established July 4, 1993, a local branch of the SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISM (SCA). The SCA is an organization devoted to the study and practice of the enjoyable aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. By researching and doing, our members learn about heraldry, calligraphy, chivalry, illumination, costuming, honor, brewing, vinting, history, courtesy, leather working, metal working, archery, horsemanship, armoring, the arts involved medieval warfare, and other intriguing skills. However, what makes it so dynamic and successful is the fine people from all walks of life who populate this, the Current Middle Ages.
The
SCA divides the world into Kingdoms; there are seventeen kingdoms at this
time. Our kingdom encompasses the Southeastern United States: the Florida
panhandle, Georgia, Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, southwestern Kentucky,
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. It is known as the KINGDOM
OF MERIDIES, which means Southlands in Latin. A map with the
coat of arms for Meridies is to the left. Two areas of interest on the map
are the Principality of Gleann
Abhann, potentially a future kingdom of the known world, and the Consortium,
an unofficial union of groups located in Georgia. To see these areas in more
detail simply position the cursor on the map and click .
Now that you've read an overview of the SCA in general, please feel free to look around our little corner of the world. If you are interested in joining us at a meeting, please contact one of our officers on the Officer's Page. If you would like to link to the site or have any questions or comments regarding the site, please contact our Webminister, Sayyida Rakli Zada Orlenda.
